Alt Valley Community Trust
Alt Valley Community Trust runs a Lifelong Learning Centre (the ‘Communiversity’) in the Croxteth area of Liverpool which has a fine reputation as a quality education provider and community resource.
They provide adult and 14-19 vocational education and provide facilities to the community such as an ICT suite, a crèche and a theatre. The Communi-Café provides healthy lunches and snacks for all staff, students and visitors to the centre. They also provide catering for meetings and functions.
In 2010 Alt Valley Community Trust received a £407,000 SEIF investment to fund the takeover and renovation of a neighbourhood leisure centre, which they have turned into a community sports and wellbeing centre.
Ambitious about Autism
Treehouse, which has since renamed as Ambitious about Autism, is the national education charity for children and young people with autism.
The organisation runs a special school, provides training for professionals and for parents, carries out research and campaigns for change in autism. They exist to enable children with autism to learn, thrive and achieve.
In 2010 Ambitious about Autism secured a £64,000 investment from the SEIF to fund the survey of a building adjacent to their school (which is currently for children up to the age of 16) which could be used to cater for those aged 16 and above. The investment helped them to investigate the feasibility of buying the building and expanding the services they offer.
Sheffield Well-Being Consortium
Sheffield Well-being Consortium is made up of over 60 not-for-profit member organisations delivering health and wellbeing services and activities in their communities.
The primary goal of the Consortium is to serve the needs of people living in Sheffield, especially those who are the most disadvantaged or have mental health problems. They deliver contracts on behalf of their local authority and NHS including running a scheme to raise awareness of NHS Lifechecks, provision of services to people with type 2 diabetes and a programme to enable more people with mild to moderate depression and anxiety to benefit from psychological therapies.
In 2010 the Consortia secured a £126,900 SEIF grant to help expand their services across more of the South Yorkshire region.
Ladder to the Moon
Ladder to the Moon is a social enterprise based in Battersea in South London.
Started in 2001, they contract with residential care homes to provide training for staff in the form of their unique 'Relationship Theatre'. Working with care providers and their elderly patients together Ladder to the Moon use drama and theatre based techniques to challenge preconceptions of dementia and train staff to connect better with residents and improve their quality of care.
In January 2010 they received a £200,000 grant from the Social Enterprise Investment Fund.
