The Social Investment Business, fund managers of the Futurebuilders Fund response to David Cameron's 'Big Society' Speech
Thursday 1 April 2010
The Social Investment Business welcomed David Cameron’s speech on the ‘Big Society’ with its support for the third sector, but expressed disappointment at the suggestion that the Futurebuilders fund is performing poorly. The National Audit office report that Mr Cameron referred to looked at the performance of the fund in its first phase and does not reflect the Fund as it is currently managed. Indeed, independent evaluation of the fund, which was published yesterday, is extremely positive.
Many of the organisations Mr Cameron refers to in his speech – community organisers, social enterprises and neighbourhood groups – are already the principal recipients of the Futurebuilders Fund.
We would welcome the opportunity to sit down with Mr Cameron and his advisers to discuss ways in which to improve the finance and support available to third sector organisations.
